Raag Desi belongs to Kafi Thaat, however some musicians relate it to Asawari Thaat. Its Vadi is Pancham and Samvadi is Shadj. It has a Vakra structure particularly in Avroh.

In Aaroh, Komal Nishad is sometimes skipped like: R m P D m P S'. In Avroh, one should not render S' D P m g R S, but render S' P D m P R g S R ,n S, which is the Raag Vachak Sangati of Raag Desi. Among many forms of Raag Desi, the one with Shuddha Dhaivat is more popular, however in this format, Komal Dhaivat is also rarely used for beautification of the Raag.
